Vacancies for skilled workers rise strongly for second month in a row

Job opportunities for highly-skilled workers in February increased by double digits (17%) for the second consecutive month, according to research by the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo).

The Monthly Trends report from the association shows that demand for professional workers such as bankers, lawyers and IT professionals has rebounded strongly since the start of 2012 after a steep decline in the second half of last year.

Vacancies for temps and contractors were up 11% in February, the same rise as in January, but are still down year-on-year by a 5% margin.

Ann Swain, chief executive for APSCo, comments: “The eurozone crisis sent the market off a cliff in the second half of 2011. We are only now starting to see green shoots return.

“There is normally a seasonal surge in job vacancies in January, but for that to continue throughout February suggests a genuine improvement in confidence feeding through to job creation.”

A new financial year and some good news to kick us off!!
